pitchforkmedia.com Jim O'Rourke has accomplished many things in his thirty-six years: produced, remixed and collaborated with countless indie- and avant- rock heavyweights, recorded a slew of solo pop and experimental albums, been a member of Gastr del Sol, Loose Fur and, until last week, Sonic Youth. But, it turns out, what he really wants to do is direct." More

from the samadhisound newsletter: Nine Horses’ "Snow Borne Sorrow" is a collaboration between David Sylvian, his brother and frequent collaborator / drummer Steve Jansen
(also formerly of Japan) and electronic composer / remixer Burnt Friedman.
Lyrically and vocally, ‘Snow Borne Sorrow’ continues the maturing darkness of Sylvian’s last solo release ‘Blemish’ – songs of struggle, doubt and resolve, Bergman-like glimpses of the realities and difficulties of intimate relationship, flashes of light and humility and, continuing his engagement with the political situation in post-0911 America, begun on his 2004 single with Ryuichi Sakamoto, World Citizen, caustic words about the excuses our leaders manage to find not to “love thy neighbor”.
‘Snow Borne Sorrow’ was made with a cast of contributors, including Norwegian trumpeter and Supersilent member Arve Henriksen, Swedish vocalist Stina Nordenstam, who adds marvellously elliptical responses to Sylvian’s vocal on the opening “Wonderful World”, and Ryuichi Sakamoto on piano.

timesonline.co.uk JOHN PEEL’S massive record collection could be saved for the nation with lottery funding.
The disc jockey, who died of a heart attack a year ago this month while on a working holiday in Peru, is believed to have had the biggest archive of recorded music in private hands in Britain.
The collection, which is housed in a purpose-built extension at Peel Acres, his farmhouse home in Suffolk, consists of 26,000 LPs, 40,000 singles and 40,000 CDs. It ranges from Beatles singles to records of Mongolian “throat singers”, African railway station bands and Bulgarian women’s choirs."
More and more I am becoming addicted to the big field of "Sound Art". I don't know if there already is a official definition of the term "Sound Art", but I am using it for everything that leaves behind the classical structures of a song or a track. Good examples are Anima by Vladislav Delay, or my all time favourite work of field recording annapurna: memories in sound. And just a couple of days ago, I discovered the great Nosordo label. Currently I am listening to one of their podcast releases, they are offering 4 at the moment plus two live recordings.

allmusic.com: "Although it didn't originally have anything to do with their sound, the Cowboy Junkies' name wound up seeming pretty accurate: their music was grounded in traditional country, blues, and folk, yet drifted along in a sleepy, narcotic haze that clearly bore the stamp of the Velvet Underground. The vast majority of their songs were spare and quiet, taken at lethargic tempos and filled with languid guitars and detached, ethereal vocals courtesy of Margo Timmins. Over the late '80s and '90s, the group recorded a succession of critically acclaimed albums that found favor in the alternative rock community." More
