Forefather of all the zanier aspects of turntablism, Steinski created a succession of extra-legal works of studio art -- "Lesson One: The Payoff Mix," "Lesson Two: The James Brown Mix," "Lesson 3: The History of Hip-Hop" -- that quickly became DJ landmarks and some of the most valued bootlegs in rap history. This record is based on Matthew Herbert's impressive live where he examplifies his PCCOM rules. In itself for those who had the chance to assist to the performance it remains a stunning experience. Herbert chastasises behemoth corporations, opinon leaders, show bizness and Nixon-era secretary of State Henry Kissinger by sampling the destruction of those entities's/people's output. The political statement is upfront and for all Herbert fans witnessing the transformation of a quaterpounder into Radiobotics is something completely mesmerizing. All the tracks featured on this Lp are made to be freely available and circulated amongst all interested.
Anton Maiden represented the ultimate in geek DIY culture. Using MIDI files of Iron Maiden songs cribbed off the Internet and a microphone plugged into his PC, 19-year-old Anton Gustafsson created energetic and excitable versions of his favorite band from his home in Sweden. His unusual recordings became a cult hit in the United States, mostly with college radio DJs and fans of "outsider music." More

Today I bought a new DVD,featuring the work of Chris Cunningham. The DVD was released as a part of the "Directors Label". Chris Cunningham is the director behind some of the most original music videos and I was eagerly awaiting the release of the DVD. I already knew most of his videos but previously they weren't availible commercially. At a really young age he was allready working a a special effects guy for movies like Alien 3 and Judge Dred. While searching for interseting links on him, I found out, that people here in Germany are writing interpretations on his clips in order to receive a "master" degree.
"My fascination for C64 cracktros began a long time ago. Here you can see a selection of my attempts to reproduce more or less famous cracktros in flash and some of my personal "doc snyder"-stuff as well.
Why Flash?
Well, my intention was to let people easily watch those little pieces of art from old times. 'Easily' means without the need of starting up an emulator or having to install certain plug-ins. Flash is a widely spread technology available for all sorts of operation systems which will allow nearly every user to play those flashtros."

As far as music is concerned, he is a regular contibutor to the magazine The Wire and is actively involved in other music publications. Mulatta Records, the record company behind the records of the musical instruments, has even more "interesting" stuf. For example:
"The People's Choice: Music composed by Dave Soldier in collaboration with the painters Komar & Melamid with lyrics by Nina Mankin. The music is written according to a survey of likes and dislikes of the public, and features two tunes: a 5 minute song designed to be liked by the greatest number of listeners, and a 30 minute long song designed to be disliked by the greatest number of listeners."
The Thai Elephant Orchestra, an ensemble of improvising Asian elephant multi-instrumentalists from the jungle of Northern Thailand who play profoundly beautiful music on specially designed instruments. "The exhibition "adonnaM.mp3" is concerned with the phenomenons of audio filesharing, peer- to- peer- networking and the mp3-standard. It analyses the drastic changes which the use of this digital tool is effecting in society, the economy, art and design. File sharing is revealed as a contemporary vehicle that provides the basis for a new means of communication and is also an instrument of creative expression. Selected designerworks about the mp3-topic are enhancing the exhibition with sensual facets."
Looks like I missed another interesting exibition in Frankfurt. Nevertheless there is lots of interesting content, including an article on the history of MP3, available on the official homepage.

Possessing a hyper-literate, intellectual style of rapping augmented with dizzying elocution that would tongue-tie even the fiercest auctioneer, Busdriver is eclectic and eccentric enough to cite vocalese jazz singer Jon Hendricks as a primary influence. Born Regan Farqhar, the Los Angeles MC was introduced to hip-hop culture early -- his father wrote the screenplay to one of the earliest films focusing on hip-hop, Krush Groove. More
