The BBC about Icarus: "First impressions of the music are of playful, skittering beats combined with frisky turntable manipulations: has Squarepusher left his Aphex Twin and Jaco Pastorius obsessions behind and taken up instead with a new mistress by the name of Free Improv? " More
The BBC writes: "A few words: Engaging folk music. Off- centre electronica. A little edginess. A brush of guitar. A hum of synths. A pleasant wall of sound. An air of Latin moods. One of the most innovative albums for a while. And here's the twist in the tale. It's not from London, New York or Paris but......Buenos Aires." More
Texas-born, Detroit-based Matthew Dear has made remarkable steps toward becoming one of America’s best new techno artists. Between his stunning live performances and evolved DJ sets, Matthew has perked the ears of the industry’s best. His debut album under his birth name, Leave Luck to Heaven, was released in winter 2003-04 on Spectral Sound/Ghostly International, having garnered positive reviews in such publications as Rolling Stone, Spin, NME, and the NY Times and remaining on the CMJ RPM chart for over 13 weeks. The music is instrumental post-rock of the Tortoise school, a hybrid sound that draws from rock, techno, ambient, and jazz. But, refreshingly, it lacks the kinds of artistic pretensions that lead musicians to apply labels like post-rock to their music. To Rococo Rot just rides along through pleasant, sometimes oddly jarring musical landscapes with a minimum of self-consciousness and a maximum of groove. The music has an aimlessness that actually comes as a kind of a relief, as if there's nowhere to be, no grand statement to make. To Rococo Rot is only interested in the journey -- which winds through a warm landscape of shifting patterns, dynamic textures, and weird samples and is powered by smooth, confident electro beats and rhythms...More
If you followed the "underground" hip-hop movement in North America during the late 90’s, you may have seen his name on lots of the records, and you probably saw him on stage at many a show around that time. Buck 65, Sebutones, Sage Francis, Peace (Freestyle Fellowship), L’ronius, Aquasky, The Goods, and various Anticon members all have a place in the story. More
Review of the newest CD by Skalpel in the WIRE #243: This release deserves to see them revered far beyond Poland..
“It’s a mixture of breaks and ambient sounds, and a hip-hop way of producing it,” says Marcin, simply summing up their sound. “Yes. I am agreeing. Perfect,” nods Igor. “We were thinking about doing something original and we decided that the Polish jazz is something we could give to the rest of the world.”
CAN is one of a few internationally known "Krautrock" groups; they are famous for their repetitive and hallucinatory sound. CAN was founded in 1968 by LIEBEZEIT, Irmin SCHMIDT and Holger CZUKAY, and in their early days they also included American singer Malcolm MOONEY or Japanese vocalist Damo SUZUKI. They transformed progressive-rock into a science. By bridging classical music, jazz music and rock music of their times, CAN accomplished the first organic study on rhythm and texture. Wow. Both of these vehicles hit the exact same off-set barrier at 40mph.Now there's no question what would win in a head-on collesion between the two but then again the majority of accidents involve only a single car. All you have to do is look at the dummy's legs and you can get an idea of what would happen if you hit a wall in either car. The MINI had almost no intrusion which "indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained very well" - the F150 on the other hand had "Major collapse of the occupant compartment that left little survival space for the driver." Bei Asiancineweb gab's mal wieder ein paar Updates:
Battle Royale II - Requiem Was soll der Mist? - Ein Politkommentar zum Geschehen unsere Zeit? Naive Kritik an der US- Außenpolitik?
Electric Dragon - 80000V Power on!
Portland, Oregon-based improvisational weirdos Jackie-O Motherfucker filtered numerous musical genres (avant-garde, electronic music, folk, country, world music, spirituals, etc.) through their noisy, psychedelic scrape and grind. Formed by core members Tom Greenwood and Jef Brown, who both contribute to the band on a variety of instruments, Jackie-O Motherfucker also relies on the contributions of sax players John Flaming and Nester, drummer Jesse Carrot, guitarist Honey Owens and multi-instrumentalist Andy Cvar. so was muss ich lesen: "Die zu adsorbierende Komponente wird im ungebundenen Zustand Adsorptiv, im gebundenen Zustand Adsorpt genannt. Den zur Bindung des Adsorptivs eingesetzten Feststoff nennt man Adsorbens. Zusammen nennt man das Adsorbens und die dünne an der Oberfläche des Adsorbens angelagert Adsorptschicht auch das Adsorbat."
Did David Hasselhoff really help end the Cold War? Baywatch star David Hasselhoff is griping that his role in reuniting East and West Germany has been overlooked. So what part, if any, did the hunk in trunks play in ending the Cold War?
Ice-T to produce Hasselhoff rap album Ice-T is to produce David Hasselhoff's first hip-hop album.
The pair are neighbours in Los Angeles and are said to have struck up a close friendship.
