"We're opening to 2005 in a grand way, putting out the first ever release by 16 year old Californian Melissa Welch. We are honored to showcase her beautiful yet tiny ep 'sleep-wake'; 3 tracks of eclectic bliss, filled with layers upon layers of sweetness and soul- warming vibes, all wrapped up in esotheric, candycane vocals. Absolutely a taste of what's to come from Melissa, who, to our eyes, has a dreamy sound with a future in music as solid as concrete."
Just a few days I posted a link to a great electronic remix of Johnny Cash's version of "I see a darkness" by DJ Acid Pauli (aka Console and member of The Notwist), which was a free track offered on his webpage as a free download.
Now it seems the track was removed because of Sony. DJ Acid Pauli was forced to remove the track. Disconizime another weblog which was also hosting this track, which made it into several "best of 2004" lists in Germany was also threatened by Sony. More info in german
"Finnish minimalist techno group Pan sonic are among the most active and well-known artists from that country's tiny experimental techno underground, and the first to reach acclaim at an international level. Pursuing the jagged edges of minimal techno and hardcore, the group have earned an enduring association with industrial and noise music through their incorporation of antiseptic production techniques and power-tool electronics, landing them in 1995 on the English Mute label's experimental subsidiary Blast First!" This is a remix of Johnny Cah's version of "I see a darkness", which is a song by Bonnie Prince Billy. Acid Pauli, aka Console is (according to me) one of the best german "electronic musicians". He is part of the Wielheim scene. Weilheim is a small town close to Munich in the south of Germany. Many great musicians, Like The Notwist or Lali Puna are based in Weilheim.
Rumors in the blogosphere of a new Bit Torrent application being developed by the folks at SuprNova.org. The name is Exeem and it’s supposedly a “decentralized BitTorrent network that basically makes everyone a Tracker. Individuals will share Torrents, and seed shared files to the network.”
At this time, details and the full potential of this project are being kept very quiet. However it appears this P2P application will completely replace SuprNova.org; no more web mirrors, no more bottle necks and no more slow downs.
When British sound artist Kaffe Matthews thinks about sound, she thinks about space, about time, about travel, about people, about radios strapped to bicycles. In her approach to making music, we find clues about what is so provocative and new about sound today: not songs, but sites; not scores, but algorithms; not notes, but empty hard drives. Her work has traces of the rich history of the art of sound, from ideas of space, duration and indeterminacy pioneered by John Cage, Alvin Lucier and LaMonte Young, to Nicolas Collins's and Ryoji Ikeda's work with feedback and failure. Her sound elegantly merges these aesthetics while at the same time articulating significant new departures. Read the whole interview
SZ: Und nun verhindern Sie Gänseleber-Produktion in Kalifornien?
Found at boomselection.info if you haven't heard of shitmat, get to know him. he produces insane jungle/glitch/noise with a cheeky pop humour. sampled in this big mix are: snow (informer), whigfield, buggles, ub40 and the theme tunes to the fresh prince of bel air, thomas the tank engine, happy days and neighbours. fuck. this guy is fucking brilliant. imagine kid606 on a d'n'b pop tip. i went to see him live the other week and he is equally as impressive doing his live laptop thing. the guy is brilliant. this mix is brilliant. get his album 'full english breakfast' too.
Chris Cunningham's career as a music video director began in 1995 when, aged twenty-five and passionate about music, Chris met and persuaded Autechre to let him direct a promo for a track entitled "Second Bad Vilbel." Following on from this video, Chris was soon working with a range of artists during the early days of his career, waiting for that all-important track that would allow him the opportunity to create the images for the music that truly excited him.
In August 1997 Chris realised a long-term desire to collaborate with Richard James (the Aphex Twin) and directed the video for the single "Come to Daddy" through the production company RSA / Black Dog Films who he had recently joined. Not only did this video change the face of music videos, it catapulted his name into the public. Needless to say the video has since won a plethora of awards and accolades including the MCM grand prix du jury 1997. Read more
Brian Siskind, who records urban travelogues under the guise of Fognode, is building a new home studio. Taking a break from the maze of wires and software patches, he wandered out to his porch with a microphone, amplifier and lap steel guitar. The result of his afternoon break is a twenty minute EP of slowly evolving atmospherics. The Porch Music EP is lazy lullabies for when you want to let your brain go and unwind all the kinks in your spine and back.
Brian says this isn't his normal thing: more of an idle afternoon spent testing tones and looping sounds to their elastic point. Two of the tracks, "Verdant" and "Stall Sighting," are just a bit over two minutes long and they are short Frippertronic-type meditations on a single melodic phrase. The longest of the five tracks, "Graham Bell," wanders in slowly like the fog drifting across the bay in the early morning, slowly devouring the headland and the anchored ships.

Grime. Sublow. Dubstep. It's Music. Different people call it different things, depending on when they discovered it. In the 80's, maybe it was House, Techno and Electro. In the 90's it was UK-G, Drum and Bass, Breaks or whatever. Now there are so many terms for it that the journalists can’t pidgeon-hole it any more. This is a good thing - it's music. Moody music. Multifunctional, multifaceted music created by Humans with Brains, Hearts, Machines & Electricity. Music that’s great for dancing to in clubs, or submerging yourself within your headphones, your car, your home, wherever. Download here ca. 140MB

She is the author of my favourite fantays books, Earthsea. I started to read them in the early 1990s, when fantasy books (at least in germany)where not easy o get. Of course you could buy "lord of the rings" everywhere, but I bought these gems at a flea market. I couldn't get hold of the third so I didn't read the whole story, nowadays almost every fantasy book is easely availible but I didn't found the time to finsh the story. But the us-american tv station turned thefirst two books in a tv mini series! But it seems, the series is only loosely based on the books, and Mrs Le Guin doesn't like it.
Right now I am spending almost 3 hours on a train every day and surely will find the time to read the whole story.
