npr.org: "The singer, rapper, and producer known as M.I.A. released one of the most celebrated albums of 2005. Critics and fans were wildly enthusiastic over her blend of revolutionary rhetoric, exotic musical infusions and explosive club tracks. Two years later, the follow-up has arrived. It's called Kala, and it proves to be an even more adventurous effort." Listen to the review and 3 tracks

Weiter

Antony is noted for the passion, beauty and intensity of his voice, and Laurie Anderson describes Antony's singing as "the most exquisite thing that you will hear in your life." Antony began performing in the '90s during late-night punk-drag-cabaret shows at the Pyramid Club, and his new album, "I Am a Bird Now," is beginning to grab a wide audience, with its provocative blend of romantic music, intense passion, and lyrics that explore aspects of personal and gender identity.
From timesonline: Her sound is an explosive mix of bhangra, ragga, electro and hip-hop. But underneath her street style, the singer-songwriter behind MIA is a political animal.
She has had more opportunities than most to have her eyes opened to the meaning of life, but for Maya Arulpragasam, the tipping point was surprisingly mundane. At the age of 10, the London-based MC was forced to flee her native Sri Lanka, where her father, a Tamil freedom fighter, remains to this day. Arriving in Britain, she and her mother and two siblings were housed on a notoriously racist council estate in Surrey. At school, the newcomer was dismissed as thick because she couldn’t speak English and labelled the Thing because her surname was too long. Yet her epiphany was all about the colour pink. from insound.com:
Antony and the Johnsons present chamber cabaret in darkest blue, creating music that is highly dramatic,
emotional, and lyrical. Compared to everyone from Nina Simone to Lotte Lenya, Antony's voice is hauntingly evocative. The Johnsons, an ensemble featuring a string trio, piano, bass, and drums, lay a foundation of lush yet minimal orchestral arrangements. "Antony & the Johnsons" is a reissue of the group's debut album, which was originally released in 1998 on the London-based label Durtro, which is run by David Tibet of Current 93."
From usa.scratchrecords.com:
"Aaron Funk (aka Venetian Snares) hails from Winnipeg. Since his debut 12-inch in 1999 on a small Minneapolis label, he has risen from the breakcore underground to become one of the most astonishing (and popular) musicians working in the experimental electronic sphere (alongside Squarepusher, Aphex Twin and Boards Of Canada). Each new album from Funk brings with it a new sound, a new atmosphere, a whole new world--he always avoids repeating what's come before." More info @ allmusic.com
Mike Patton is best-known as the lead singer of Faith No More from 1988 to 1998, but has also handled lead vocals for Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk and Fantômas. He often produces side projects in collaboration with other musicians, such as John Zorn, Dan the Automator, The Melvins, Dillinger Escape Plan, Melt-Banana and many more.
Patton possesses a remarkable range of vocal textures and styles (from Sinatra-esque crooning to aggressive death metal growling), and his avant-garde leanings have earned him a large and loyal cult following.
Growing up in Eureka, California, Patton and friends formed Mr. Bungle circa 1985. They recorded a few demos and earned a small local following. Patton joined Faith No More in January of 1989 and filled the vocal void left by the unreliable and recently fired Chuck Mosley (Cement). Faith No More's The Real Thing was released later the same year. The album reached the top ten on the charts thanks largely to MTV's heavy rotation of the video for the song "Epic".
