As opposed to Thirlwell's other instrumental group, Steroid Maximus, Manorexia features no collaborators and eschews musical structure for a more free-form and spontaneous approach. The results are often described as cinematic and textural. To date all albums have been released on Thirlwell's own Ectopic Ents label and have been sold only at concerts or via the Official Foetus Website." Read on

Daniel Menche: "Native American drums are superb for rich resonating sounds due to the animal skin used. For Animality I used a large drum with moose skin for powerful deep bass sounds and then also a elk skin drum for penetrating mid sounds. Much of the higher sounds are from "residue" noise of these drums. Much like how Native Americans use ALL of the animals skin, bones, fur and meat. Even tho there is killing involved there is an devout appreciation and divine gratitude to nature. All of the possible sounds I could create with these drums I used for Animality. There is also some of my voice sounds in there too." Read the whole interview
"Flying Lotus (Steven Ellison) is a hip-hop music producer, disc jockey, and laptop musician from Winnetka, California. His debut album, 1983, was released on Plug Research Records in 2006. Flying Lotus is commonly identified as a hip hop producer, but his style is drawn from many genres, including jazz and Brazilian music. His hip hop beats are unique for their hazy, ambient sound, while his percussion is purposefully slightly off time to create a messier, more organic atmosphere. Because of this, he is often linked with producers Madlib and J Dilla." Read on
