They also have a lot in common with the Melvins musically, including a fondness for heavily down tuned guitar/bass tones and exceedingly slow tempos. But they also incorporate elements variously drawn from other sources, including psychedelic rock, punk, noise, minimalism, pure sludge-drone music à la Earth, and more.

Besides pure heavy riff-droning bombast, Boris adds a unique experimentalist ambience to all they touch. This perfectly explains their involvement and collaboration with such cult-experimental artists such as MERZBOW and Keiji Haino. Every release from this group is different. Lately lots of metal bands are featured in the WIRE magazine. Pig Destroyer is reviewed in the March 2005 issue. Phil Freeman , from THE WIRE 252 says: "...playing an astonishingly abusive form of grindcore mixed with more traditional metal".

Born in 1945, Anthony Braxton began studying music at age 17. In 1966, after playing clarinet and alto saxophone in the military, Braxton moved to Chicago and became involved with the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians.
