In the second half of the 1970s, Throbbing Gristle waged war on British society. With songs about the Moors murders and the Manson killings, and riotous concerts that garnered front-page headlines and sparked debates in the House of Commons, the band did, as guitarist Cosey Fanni Tutti puts it, "disrupt things a little". The MP Nicholas Fairbairn called them wreckers of civilisation - shortly before he was arrested for indecent exposure. But even wreckers of civilisation, like prostitutes and politicians, get respectable with time. The four members of Throbbing Gristle are together again to prepare for a festival that is being organised in their honour. More

I allready linked to Piana, the first artist who appeared on the "happy" label. To make shure you also check out the other great stuff from this label, I am writing this second post. If you think Piana is still to much j-pop, try the other artists. In fact, the track by Eisi is one of my current favourites.
"On this debut from Naoko Sasaki, alias Piana, connections are forged between the seemingly disparate fields of glitch processing and coy J-Pop. Coming across as a child's sketchbook or diary, there is a palapable sense of nostalgia in these lovely songs, powerful and moving evocations of a kid's world that vary int one from the tearful to the joyful to the fearful. Basing her fragile melodies on slow motion Satie-like chord patterns, employing piano, organ, occasional broken beats and beautifully measured guitar from Yuichiro Iwashita, Sasaki then destabalises the music by adding a low key firework display of static pops and hisses which serves as a brilliantly effective metaphor for a child's sense of wonder, distress, excitement and anxiety. The songs recall both the unsettling, naive sampladelica of Pop - Off Tuesday and Cocteau Twins at their heartstopping best." Review from the WIRE magazine
A compilation free for download from the Chilean website loop. The title is probably programmatic, but the loops are used in different ways. The dense drone piece by Pablo Reche for instance consists probably of a lot of loops, carefully placed on top of eachother to create this dense mass of sound. On the total opposite side is Receptor with their (his?) Chain Reaction inspired tune. In between a lot more loose loops are used, in various guises, but the overall ambient character of the pieces are to be noted here, such as in the pieces by Gustavo Lamas, Vadislav Delay, Coti or Richard Chartier. Also includes Kim Cascone, Longina, @c+Lia, Denzel & Huhn, Lame Gold, Dub Tractor, Luis Marte and Coeval. Very nice compilation. (FdW)
King Tubby is to this day synonymous with dub. He was a man who had a passion for fiddling with sound equipment, and turned that passion into a new musical genre and a veritable art form. He may have started his career as a repairman, but before he was done, his name was one of the most respected around the world.
