The Wire, 2003: Plastic Crimewave Sound is something like the musical analogue to the Galactic Zoo Dossier fanzine, and their first single Grade Ceased, is about what you’d hope for from that connection. It is loud, crude psychedelic sludge, with heavily amped and effected guitars slicing through the swamps of midnight, with vocals buried in tanks of Japanese laughing gas, and rhythms sliding along like moist candy dropped from the lips of Alan Vega. Nice synth/electropop with a "Chicks on Speed" esque touch from people named Liz Enthusiasm, the Duke of Pannekoeken, and the other Sean T. Drinkwater. A yamaha qy-70, which looks like a gameboy with more buttons, is the centerpiece of freezepop's songs. They have toured throughout the U.S. and Europe, and have played at the Outsider Electronic Music festival, as well as with such artists as Cibo Matto, Add N to (X), and Momus.
11 MP3 files are offered to download for free at the official webpage. May favourite tracks are " here comes a special boy" and "stakeout (donnerschlag remix)". But I can't stand those remixe they did for Apoptygma Berzerk, that's because I don't like that guy. I used to like that guy, many years ago, but now his voice and the kitschy lyrics are just annoying me.

I read the story about the eminem of electronic music today on the train, when I arrived at home in the evening, I checked my emails and discovered via the kitty-yo newsletter, that they are offering two free mp3 files ! What a great coincidence!
It took me only a few seconds to realise, that I can't stand it !!!! I don't know what I was expecting, but I was realy disapointed. But that's only me and maybe you think his music is the best since sliced bread:

How to describe Bohren? They are jazz, they are ultra dark - but please throw away out all of your prejudices. A core band of four playing drums, bass, piano, keyboards, saxophone very slowly (in a classical framework) without any traditional jazz rhythm feelings. A Japanese company released these discs from an unknown source. The bonus tracks are taken from The Johnny Cash Show. Cash's vocals have a more commanding presence than Dylan's."
Under Byen is an eight piece band that mix the gentle with the raw. Reigning from Denmark's second-largest city, Århus, they produce their own unorthodox interpretation of rock music.
Their qualities especially become evident at their spellbinding live shows where they create a symbiosis between elven fairytale fragility and massive rock energy. Sometimes soft as the wind, other times sharp as a rock. The intimate versus the extrovert. It is in this space that their musical magic emerges. Under Byen seem most at ease walking on thin ice - believing that their talent will keep them above water. And it does.
Under Byen (which is Danish for "Below The City") don't use guitars. Instead their soundscape is dominated by piano, cello, violin, electrically distorted saw, organ, drums and percussion - to great effect. A somewhat different vein of rock (or pop) spiced up with jazzy, folky and classical elements. This is a band to be heard, simply because they defy satisfactory explanation. More info

Tripper is the debut full-length by the 10-piece Danish ensemble Efterklang,[...] which settles beautifully into an open area somewhere between the elegant minimalist orchestrations of Max Richter, the electronically-enhanced chamber music of Rachel's albums like Systems/Layers, and the more contemplative moments of Godspeed! You Black Emperor.
The most obvious characteristic that separates Efterklang from these other artists is their extensive use of vocals to augment their spacious orchestral sound. The band regularly alternates between male and female lead vocals, and on many tracks it also employs a full Greenlandic choir. In addition, the band's roster now includes the trumpeter Kristina Schjelde, as well as Hildur Arsaelsdottir and Edda Run Olafsdottir from Iceland's Amina string quartet, who have also performed with Sigur Ros. Bruce Russell, Access to Evil [Thank You For Talkin' to Me, Amerika]
This 2003 radiophonic work by the New Zealand sound artist Bruce Russell is a response to the recent invasion of Iraq by the United States-led forces.
It consists of interview recordings made in 2002, in which ordinary Californians talk about their opposition to the 'War on Terrorism', their disillusionment with their government and their disengagement from the media consequent on the almost universal self-censoring of oppositional voices after 11 September 2001. Mixed with these are recordings from US public radio news, an electronic soundscape by Russell and French artist Jean-Jacques Palix recorded in Paris in February 2003 at the time of the giant anti-war rally in that city, and quotations from the 1991 electro-acoustic piece 'Gloire a...' recorded by Jerome Noetinger in protest against the first Gulf War.
It is an artistic contribution to the growing debate on the US government's unilateralism and disregard of international law, which is at once personal and political. By ventilating the views of ordinary Americans opposed to what their government claims to be doing in their name, Access to Evil tries to redress the impression of American unanimity presented by the major media.
The Lesbians On Ecstasy are a live dance outfit from Montreal, Quebec. Playing a mixture of hardcore breakbeat and house inspired party music, they are known for their shows featuring live drums (sometimes electronic drum pads, sometimes an acoustic kit), a bass player, samples, sequences and a mad dancing front woman. Since then, he's carved a niche for himself among a sea of Powerbook wannabes.
