Up-and-coming Tigerbeat6 recording duo Stars As Eyes write music inspired by the Delaware landscape, and Providence noisescape; with a love and admiration forsoft radio hits, kraut and psych rock, hip-hop, and electro. Manipulating both "real and fake instruments", their refreshing lo-fi rock sensibility distinguishes them from glitch-based contemporaries.
The Sea and Cake was a post-rock supergroup of sorts comprised of luminaries from the Chicago independent scene. The band was led by singer/guitarist Sam Prekop, who, along with bassist Eric Claridge, was an alumnus of the frequently brilliant Shrimp Boat. After that group's dissolution, Prekop and Claridge were offered the opportunity to embark on a new project and hastily recruited ex-Coctails guitarist Archer Prewitt and Tortoise drummer John McEntire before entering the studio. Sydney-based jazz trio Triosk and Jan Jelinek from Berlin have opened up a common equation. In musical terms, their joint album "1+3+1" does not make 5, but only one thing: sense. And the title reflects their production method: Jelinek mails selected samples and textures to Australia, Triosk use these as a basis for composition and recording, the enhanced material then returns to Berlin for Jelinek to finalise. "Outside the Inbox is a compilation of songs inspired by and titled after the subject lines of mass-email (spam). I asked artists to choose a spam subject line and then write a song with the same title.
It started out as a novelty idea, but the results have far exceeded my expectations. Aside from the amusement of turning something as annoying as spam into art, I'm very happy to have the chance to showcase some of the great independent music happening on the Internet these days"
Homemade dance music from crazed Germans. Bodenstandig 2000 constructs modern electronic.industrial.dance out of very early-tech sounds. Using what appears to be a dizzying array of antiquated technology (Ataris and My First Casios are pictured), Bodenstandig 2000 proves quite conclusively that it's not the number of bits that matters. B2K sounds more than a bit like a cross-breeding between German minimalists like Trio and Kraftwerk and the Gulf Coast lunacy of master sequencer Sir Millard Mulch. More
Bodenstandig 2000 are two German boys: Bernhard Kirsch and Dragan Espenschied (aka Dr. X). Maxi German Rave Blast Hits 3 was released on Rephlex , the label of Aphex Twin.
‘Bus,’ as Berliners Daniel Meteo and Tom Thiel + guest MC Soom-T have fashioned a recording that in its general approach resembles Pole’s. Bus’s ‘Middle of the Road,’ for example, uses a lurching rhythm characteristic of Betke’s music, and the propulsive, bass-driven dub of ‘Clappin’ could be added to Pole without too much disruption. MC Soom-T is a member of the Glasgow formation Monkeytribe, dedicated to the underground aspects of hiphop. With the 12inch "Delaware" Monkeytribe released their first ever official record on Daniel's Meteosound label.
Maxi Hecker first began playing his breathy, polyester pop to an audience at the corners of the Hackesche Markt in Berlin. The young singer/songwriter would stand there with his guitar and amp in an attempt to woo women ten years older then him with beautiful "schweinepop" or "cheap pop."
Hecker began his music career as a drummer for various rock bands, but discovered that the bands would not play his songs the way he intended. He soon set out on his own as a true musician of solitude, playing all the parts himself. After giving out about 30 copies of his demo to anyone who would indulge his romanticism, Hecker scored his first official release with the song "Cold Wind Blowing" on the soundtrack Alaska.de. His full-length debut, Infinite Love Songs, followed in 2001 on Kitty-Yo. The album, more suited to California beach bunnies than the industry of Berlin, established Hecker's position among pop Casanovas like Air and Momus.
Illegal Art is the brainchild of enigmatic impresario Philo T. Farnsworth. The label stormed onto the digital battlefield in 1998 with the release of Deconstructing Beck, a collection of experimental, electronic works derived entirely from Beck Hansen samples. Litigious murmuring by Beck's handlers only served to drum up priceless publicity for the fledgling label (in a way reminiscent of the mixed-blessing lawsuits brought against earlier sample-based artists like Negativland and John Oswald). Things have calmed down a bit these days, and IA now boasts an impressive catalog of disparate, mainly sample-based music.
Beisdes MP3 files of Illegal Art releases, they are also offering "illegal" MP3 files from various artists like Stockhausen, Can and Kid606. More

Mono is a young instrumental band from Tokyo combining elements of minimalism, psychedelia and trance rock to create a distinctive and powerful new sound via John Fahey, Sonic Youth and the Grateful Dead. Austere and intense—their music is simple, beautiful and incredibly direct. Sheets of sound, lyricism, wailing guitars and pounding rhythms evolve slowly, morphing into a ritual of noise and ecstasy. A remarkable debut from this exciting new Japanese band.
Closely allied with post-industrial dub terrorists such as Bill Laswell, Techno Animal, James Plotkin, Robert Musso, and Anton Fier, Birmingham-based artist Mick Harris is something of a study in extremes. A drummer with noted death metal outfit Napalm Death through the group's late-'80s/early-'90s heyday, Harris began experimenting with monochrome ambient and dub styles toward the tail end of his association with that group. marco haas from cologne, germany, co-founder of the minimal techno / house label shitkatapult released a series of bone dry rocking bassy techno tracks on eps like stromschleifen ep or zartbitter ep. this is knarztechno with a stubbornness basing on a solid hardcore references. once t.raumschmiere is set in its track there is no way in stopping it! the 4/4 basskick sets speed to 128 bpm heading through underwood, the string arrangements swarm through reverb enlarged cathedrals nesting some wicked sounds. does the term electrofuck attract you? t.raumschmiere grants a lifelong warranty.
'ThinkToy' began as an experimental music project heavily centred around mixing fragmented media & music samples for the purpose of finding new ways to use music for positive change, general mental reflection or just plain stupid fun. ThinkToy adopts a Fair Use approach to music-making.
Kateryna Zavoloka is a musician from Kyiv city, Ukraine. This is her first release since three years of making music. The sound of Zavoloka is very impuslive mixture of rich and dense however sometimes abstract analogue and digital noises, melodies and idm like drums. Often unexpected music design and courses create an impression of body motion of a fighter in kung-fu drunken style. This rather short but very interesting release however called SUSPENZIA (in regards of Natalia Zhizchenko essay) that is "suspension" or "slip" in russian or ukrainian.
I just discovered that the same webpage whis is offering all those fan made autechre mixes, is also offering lot's of Aphex Twin Remix mp3 files. Unfortunaly, my downloadmanager is not working on theire webpage :-(

Glasgow lo-fi post-rockers, described as the "best band of the 21st century" by Pavement's Stephen Malkmus, whose studied art-rock boldly attempts to emulate the sound of legendary US alternative rockers Slint and Sonic Youth. Formed by Stuart Braithwaite (guitar/vocals) and Dominic Aitchison (bass) in 1995, they were soon joined by second guitarist John Cummings and drummer Martin Bulloch. Their debut single "Tuner"/"Lower" appeared in March 1996 on their own Rock Action label. Other early singles, including "Summer" and "New Paths To Helicon" (collected on the Jetset release), were released on various independent labels. They received high praise from a music press anxious for an antidote to the Oasis-dominated guitar-rock scene, although they left many listeners bemused by a "difficult" live broadcast on BBC Radio 1 that ended with 10 minutes of white noise. With blizzards of guitar noise, urgent beats, and looped electronics, Oita, Japan's Xinlisupreme (pronounced zinly supreme) recast My Bloody Valentine, Suicide, and Aphex Twin in a strange genre-assaulting sound that is at times gentle, at times violent, but always unique. Read more at Allmusic.com
It is somewhat difficult to explain what Xinlisupreme actually is, or sounds like. What we can say is that instead of letting the concept of noise, feedback, etc needlessly carry them away (like so many others; you know who you are), the band take matters into their own hands and boldly shape and craft theirs into a melting pot of dissonance based ideas. Xinlisupreme are a duo from Japan, but they play some of the wildest surf-guitar instrumentals this side of 1960s USA. Read more at Pitchforkmedia.com
...The Lali Puna sound is a sophisticated, complex mélange of classic pop motifs, pulsing electronic rhythms, and sleek European styling. Valerie herself could be the subject of a dissertation on modern cross-cultural anthropology: a Portuguese-educated German national, of part Asian descent, writing in English, sampling Spanish voices. The band isn't shy about its influences, which include Stereolab, Buffalo Daughter, and Aphex Twin, but close listening reveals echoes of less obvious artists like Nico, Brian Eno, and Saint Etienne -- as well as a strong streak of originality that makes simple comparisons like these somewhat difficult. It began in Kabul as a joke, but with the help of a few German musicians Afghanistan's all-girl rock group "Burqa Band" was formed in the space of a day and has hit the airwaves and clubs in Germany.
All that remains of the ephemeral alliance of the Burqa and rock is an amateur video clip and a song remixed by Berlin DJ Barbara Morgenstern which has become a modest summer-time favourite.
The female trio appears on screen as three blue ghosts in a makeshift studio in Kabul; bound by their robes they nevertheless let it all hang out on the drums, electric bass and microphone. Read more

Montreal-based Akufen's "My Way" primarily showcases DJ Marc Leclair's newly developed production technique called "microsampling," and doubles as an intriguing dance music album. Leclair records hours worth of radio broadcasts each day and creates tiny samples from this source, often using only a fraction of a spoken word or a single guitar riff. He then assembles these fragments into sound collages and backs them up with fast-paced 4/4 techno-style drum loops. Et voilà, house music. Read more
