The original Uruguayian Fernando Lagreca, nowadays residing in Barcelona, delivers a sweet album of south american electronica, yet poppy in it's unconventionality.
Fernando knows how to create dreamy melodies unfolding a melancholic touch with a very minimal setup. Light like a butterfly melodies meet fragile bitcrushed fragments, to create chilly moods with sparse beats. Although the main track itself may surprise with the panned acoustic guitars.
Fernando Lagreca - Suave was released on the mp3 - label "autoplate" which is a sublabel of thinner.
Cincinnati Multinstrumentalist Bryan Charles Hollon is a highly esteemed deejay, producer and radio presenter who has worked with artists as diverse as Dose One and Four Tet. In 2000, he collaborated with Dose One to create the erratic work of genius that was Circle. Now, Boom Bip is releasing his debut album via Warp's UK subsidiary Lex Records. When an artist chooses to take for himself a name that is the fundamental rhythm of hiphop, he’s setting the stakes excessively high for himself. With this project, he not only proves himself a master producer of quality instrumental hiphop but also arguably succeeds to be the first beatsmith since DJ Shadow to transcend genre on the strength of his music alone. Homemade dance music from crazed Germans. Bodenstandig 2000 constructs modern electronic.industrial.dance out of very early-tech sounds. Using what appears to be a dizzying array of antiquated technology (Ataris and My First Casios are pictured), Bodenstandig 2000 proves quite conclusively that it's not the number of bits that matters. B2K sounds more than a bit like a cross-breeding between German minimalists like Trio and Kraftwerk and the Gulf Coast lunacy of master sequencer Sir Millard Mulch. More
Bodenstandig 2000 are two German boys: Bernhard Kirsch and Dragan Espenschied (aka Dr. X). Maxi German Rave Blast Hits 3 was released on Rephlex , the label of Aphex Twin.
The Beatbugs are a network of eight hand-held percussion instruments that are designed to encourage people to play music together. Players can enter simple rhythmic motifs, manipulate and develop them, and collaborate with each other to perform and create music. In the composition ?Nerve? by Gili Weinberg, players choose between manipulating existing motives and entering their own material. This creates an evolving musical system driven by the interaction between the player's choices and the system's stochastic algorithm.
Does anyone not know who Douglas Adams is ? Well, here is an short introduction:
Douglas Adams created The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which originally appeared as a BBC Radio 4 series in March 1978. Since then it has been transformed into a series of best-selling novels, a television series, records, cassettes and CDs, a computer game, a website and several stage adaptations.
His first Hitchhiker book went straight to Number One in the UK Bestseller List and in 1984 he became the youngest author to be awarded a Golden Pan, the first of three of these awards. He was also nominated for the first Best of Young British Novelists awards. More
Balding, slightly overweight journalist and WFMU DJ named Jason Forrest, Summer works in a manner encompassing every IDM-trend to come along in the past decade-- drill-n-bass, gabba, tigerbeat6-esque laptop trickery, plunderphonics-- all are fair game for Summer to destroy and recontextualize. Part of a loose collective of sample-fiends, including Giorgio Marauder (AKA END) and Duran Duran Duran, all working under the nom de electronique "cock-rock disco," Summer and crew are proponents of what Forrest refers to in a recent Vice Magazine piece as "the new computer music." Musically speaking, these acts have little to do with traditional disco, and while computers surely factor in heavily, things never get too tech-geeky.
Mixtapes are flooding the industry. Since 50 Cent emerged on the scene, everyone are using mixtapes to spread the word and get their music out to the masses. Everyone from 50 Cent, Diplomats to Snoop Dogg and underground artists put out mixtapes.
Well, it seems that the RIAA is confiscating some inventory from mom and pops shops. Yesterday, Alan Berry, store owner of Berry's Music in Indianapolis, Indiana, was a victim of this. Berry's Music stores and wharehouse were raided by RIAA agents and local police authorities. They confiscated $10,000 worth of inventory, most of that were DJs mixtapes.
‘Bus,’ as Berliners Daniel Meteo and Tom Thiel + guest MC Soom-T have fashioned a recording that in its general approach resembles Pole’s. Bus’s ‘Middle of the Road,’ for example, uses a lurching rhythm characteristic of Betke’s music, and the propulsive, bass-driven dub of ‘Clappin’ could be added to Pole without too much disruption. Laub, a thoroughly 21st-century band in Berlin, creates starkly beautiful music that has one foot in pop music and the other in the future, unshackling emotions without recycling musical ideas from the past. Antye Greie-Fuchs, who supplies Laub’s vocals and programs the workhorse sampler/sequencer MPC2000, says: "We always try to be really authentic, which means we get influences and we don’t reproduce that. We strongly try to find our own way." More
Marc Weiser (the man behind the music) and Lillevaen (the man behind the visuals) provide deep aquatic techno and raspy electronic hip hop under the name Rechenzentrum. Besides gracing the decks on a regular basis, Weiser also promotes the extremely popular Berlin club Maria Am Ostbahnof. As Rechenzentrum, he has remixed tracks for Tarwater, Laub, and Elektronauten. Weiser is also one-half of DJ and producer team Le Hammond Inferno (signed to Bungalow) who themselves have remixed Saint Etienne, Pizzicato Five, Balanco, and Fantasic Plastic Machine. More
Yes, it is true that the Canadian-born, Berlin-based artist likes to sing about sex. It is also true that her combination of deliciously minimalist electronic beats and power-chord stadium rock fuse together to make music that is sincerely unlike anything else you'll hear on the planet.
Maxi Hecker first began playing his breathy, polyester pop to an audience at the corners of the Hackesche Markt in Berlin. The young singer/songwriter would stand there with his guitar and amp in an attempt to woo women ten years older then him with beautiful "schweinepop" or "cheap pop."
Hecker began his music career as a drummer for various rock bands, but discovered that the bands would not play his songs the way he intended. He soon set out on his own as a true musician of solitude, playing all the parts himself. After giving out about 30 copies of his demo to anyone who would indulge his romanticism, Hecker scored his first official release with the song "Cold Wind Blowing" on the soundtrack Alaska.de. His full-length debut, Infinite Love Songs, followed in 2001 on Kitty-Yo. The album, more suited to California beach bunnies than the industry of Berlin, established Hecker's position among pop Casanovas like Air and Momus.
Although John Burton, aka Leafcutter John, started his artistic life learning to paint or playing the guitar, he soon discovered that there was more to a computer than spreadsheets and video games. Proof is his first album, Microcontact, released on Planet Mu. The album flirts with electroacoustic and music concrète, and demonstrates that the man is one of the most exiting new musicians around. You'd think Madonna would have learnt by now: it never pays to annoy the fans, especially on the internet. An attempt by the singer and her record company to embarrass people downloading illegal free copies of her album – by replacing them with a brief message from Madonna, saying "What the f*** do you think you're doing?" – has instead sparked a remix bonanza, with online DJs creating dozens of brand new tracks using her words as a sample.
