I added a new Link to the right column. By clicking on the "Listen" link ( the third under the pull down menu) you will be redirected to my webjay page.
Webjay is a new service which allows users to create playlists of free mp3 files found on the web.
I started to create my own "WIRE playlist", so you can listen to fine music without downloading anything. No additional software needed. All you need is something like WInamp, Windows Media Player or any other media player.
Marjane Satrapi was born in 1969 in Rasht, Iran. She grew up in Tehran, where she studied at the Lycee Francais before leaving for Vienna and then going to Strasbourg to study illustration. She currently lives in Paris, where she is at work on the sequel to Persepolis and where her illustrations appear regularly in newspapers and magazines. She is also the author of several children's books.
Persepolis , originally published to wide critical acclaim in France, where it elicited comparisons to Art Spiegelman's Maus, Persepolis is Marjane Satrapi's wise, funny, and heartbreaking memoir of growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. In powerful black-and-white comic strip images, Satrapi tells the story of her life in Tehran from ages six to fourteen, years that saw the overthrow of the Shah's regime, the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, and the devastating effects of war with Iraq. The intelligent and outspoken only child of committed Marxists and the great-granddaughter of one of Iran's last emperors, Marjane bears witness to a childhood uniquely entwined with the history of her country. Ferrari was born in Paris and studied the piano under Alfred Cortot, musical analysis under Olivier Messiaen and composition under Arthur Honegger. His first works were freely atonal.
In 1954, Ferrari went to the United States to meet Edgard Varese, whose Déserts he had heard on the radio, and had impressed him. This seems to have had a great effect on him, with the tape part in Déserts serving as inspiration for Ferrari to use magnetic tape in his own music.
In 1958 he co-founded the Groupe des Recherche Musicales with Pierre Schaeffer and François-Bernard Mâche. He has taught in institutions around the world, and has worked for film, theatre and radio.
By the early 1960, Ferrari had begun work on his Hétérozygote, a piece for magnetic tape which uses ambient environmental sounds to suggest a dramatic narrative. The use of ambient recordings was to become a distinctive part of Ferrari's musical language. More

"keith-hrvatski spent a few weeks in scandinavia at the end of summer 2003. on a boat coming back from a day spent on rovaer island (off of the western norwegian coast), he made this field recording with a portable minidisc and an elementally challenged (read: wet) sony ms-957 mic.
no digital processing of any kind was performed, this is the raw audio as the microphone (and the md's ATRAC compression) heard it. during a torrential downpour. quite unbelievable, really..."

Munich's Funkstörung have been described as the German Autechre, a description which probably has less to do with their sound than the interest the group has attracted to their Musik Aus Strom label. Similar to Autechre's Skam label, Musik Aus Strom (German, roughly, for "synthesizer music") has become one of the more collectible, obsessed-over underground electronica labels, coveted as much for the Skam-esque enigma about them as the increasing exchange between the two labels' rosters (a connection the two sealed in 1997 with the release of the limited edition Mask series, a collaboration between the labels and their respective artists). Canadian rip-off clone of MoblogUK
"MoblogUK is a free-to-use,Creative-Commons-licensed moblogging site that has been
running for about 1 year. Sadly, it seems that a Canadian company are trying to cash in on MoblogUK's
sucess by launching freemoblogUK. Please note the similarity in logos. freemoblogUK's domain name was registered in September of this year, so it's obvious which site came first. I thought this story might be of interest to you, especially because moblogUK in a non-commercial Creative Commons project, whereas freemoblogUK is an commercial entity."
Difference between freemoblogUK and moblogUK's terms of service:
"freemoblogUK may use, sell and/or share with its affiliates any information provided by you on this website, including your name, e-mail address, usage patterns, and uploaded images and text."
versus moblogUK: "The last thing we want to do is to take ownership of your images - they're yours to do with as you wish, and if we want to use them, we'll ask you first.

Interjamp Radio is a german radio station featuring netaudio once a month. Recently they started to file the shows at arcive.org. The shows are in german, but the playlists are availible on the radio interjamp webpage, so if you liked a track, you are capable to determine it.
Downloading pirated music from the Internet has had almost no effect on real world sales, say researchers from Harvard Business School and the the University of North Carolina.
Their recent report effectively discredits record executives who claimed that the progressive slump in music sales can be linked to the rise in online piracy.
The researchers studied the most heavily downloaded songs to determine if there was a measurable drop in legitimate sales. They discovered that filesharing actually increases sales for popular albums - those that sell more than 600,000 copies. They found that for every 150 illegal downloads, legitimate CD sales of that album are increased by one copy. More Download the whole paper here
"A new Interjamp radioshow about netaudio has arrived at archive.org. This show is a special about the new netlabel Stadtgruen from Hamburg, Germany, including an interview and some tracks, that havent been released yet!"

Charalambides is a trio of Texas creative musicians performing extended guitar and voice compositions and improvisations. Their music moves between poles of tonality and atonality, utilizing volume, space, silence, folk and psychedelia, and the scrape and hiss of steel on steel. Initially conceived as a recording project, the group has steadily evolved toward music of a more public nature. Formed in Houston in 1991 (and relocated to Austin in 1997), Charalambides has evolved through various configurations based on the core duo of Tom & Christina Carter. From 1993 to 1996 they performed and recorded with guitarist Jason Bill (currently with Arizona duo Migrantes), and since 2000 the lineup has included steel guitarist Heather Murray (formerly of Ash Castles on the Ghost Coast). Antibalas is a culturally diverse Afrobeat ensemble based in the heart of Brooklyn, New York. Judging by their complex percussive approach, the band's fourteen-plus members -- including Latinos, whites, African-Americans, Africans, and Asian-Americans -- are chiefly inspired by the Reverend Fela Kuti, though they are also unquestionably indebted to '70s funk troupe War and Nigerian rhythm doctor Tony Allen.
