"They call their series Exactitudes: a contraction of exact and attitude. By registering their subjects in an identical framework, with similar poses and a strictly observed dress code, Versluis and Uyttenbroek provide an almost scientific, anthropological record of people's attempts to distinguish themselves from others by assuming a group identity. The apparent contradiction between individuality and uniformity is, however, taken to such extremes in their arresting objective-looking photographic viewpoint and stylistic analysis that the artistic aspect clearly dominates the purely documentary element."

I found the link on an italian fan page, therefore I don't know the name of the radio staion, but it must be a very resent interview. Get it here
I allready linked to Piana, the first artist who appeared on the "happy" label. To make shure you also check out the other great stuff from this label, I am writing this second post. If you think Piana is still to much j-pop, try the other artists. In fact, the track by Eisi is one of my current favourites.
"On this debut from Naoko Sasaki, alias Piana, connections are forged between the seemingly disparate fields of glitch processing and coy J-Pop. Coming across as a child's sketchbook or diary, there is a palapable sense of nostalgia in these lovely songs, powerful and moving evocations of a kid's world that vary int one from the tearful to the joyful to the fearful. Basing her fragile melodies on slow motion Satie-like chord patterns, employing piano, organ, occasional broken beats and beautifully measured guitar from Yuichiro Iwashita, Sasaki then destabalises the music by adding a low key firework display of static pops and hisses which serves as a brilliantly effective metaphor for a child's sense of wonder, distress, excitement and anxiety. The songs recall both the unsettling, naive sampladelica of Pop - Off Tuesday and Cocteau Twins at their heartstopping best." Review from the WIRE magazine
A compilation free for download from the Chilean website loop. The title is probably programmatic, but the loops are used in different ways. The dense drone piece by Pablo Reche for instance consists probably of a lot of loops, carefully placed on top of eachother to create this dense mass of sound. On the total opposite side is Receptor with their (his?) Chain Reaction inspired tune. In between a lot more loose loops are used, in various guises, but the overall ambient character of the pieces are to be noted here, such as in the pieces by Gustavo Lamas, Vadislav Delay, Coti or Richard Chartier. Also includes Kim Cascone, Longina, @c+Lia, Denzel & Huhn, Lame Gold, Dub Tractor, Luis Marte and Coeval. Very nice compilation. (FdW)

"Futurism was an international art movement founded in Italy in 1909. It was (and is) a refreshing contrast to the weepy sentimentalism of Romanticism. The Futurists loved speed, noise, machines, pollution, and cities; they embraced the exciting new world that was then upon them rather than hypocritically enjoying the modern world’s comforts while loudly denouncing the forces that made them possible. Fearing and attacking technology has become almost second nature to many people today; the Futurist manifestos show us an alternative philosophy.
Paul Wirkus, born 1967 in Poland and resident of Cologne, is a producer of improvisational and electronic music. Since the late 90's he has won acclaim for several projects and releases of modern impro and minimal electronica. [...]The current solo program of Paul Wirkus is an electronic live set. The set-up consists of two tremolo effects, three mini disc recorders and a mixing desk. The sound material is based on samples of string quartets and solo piano, mixed with hissing and feedbacking noises of mic amplifiers in overdrive.
These elements converge to a contemplative area of sound, charged up by polyrhythmic figures, syncopations of asynchronous rhythmic patterns and sparse melodic tracks. Pulsating loops and tremolos merge to a whirring experimental lo fi aesthetic. More
"THE IRISH ARE drinking less Guinness - official. Figures just released by Diageo - the company which owns Ireland's national tipple - show that sales slumped by six per cent.
The reason? Paul Walsh, Diageo's CEO, revealed that the typical 21 to 25 year old is failing to follow his father's footsteps down to the pub. Instead, "They're often putting their money into electronic stuff such as iPODs," Walsh told the FT."More
this video is availible on the Bit Torrent p2p network. Someone ripped the whole opening ceremony of the olympics from the BBC. It was recorded from television, so I guess it's legal to download it. Go to suprnova.org and search for:

The University of Maryland's student newspaper recently interviewed Math professor Michael Brin. Professor Brin is, of course Google co-founder Sergey Brin's father. It's an interesting little write up recounting Sergey's long time interest in computers and some of the earliest incarnations of Google's first datacenter, which incidentally, doubled as Larry Page's dorm room. P.S. I spent my "second practical term" (dt: 2. Praxissemester) at the UMD in Maryland! GO TERPS!
I don't where this video was taken. But I think it was taken during some creepy experment, like the stanford prison experiment. Watch it here, but you have been warned!
Jacques Berrocal has been very active since the beginning of the 1970s. No one in France could mix jazz, improvisation, rock'n'roll, punk, no wave, spoken words and industrial music like him. He also had a central position in the creation of d'Avantage, a collective record label that issued some of the most particular sessions of the mid-late Seventies. At the same time he was working on never ending sessions for records that were never issued. Jac and his band were the Apostles of the non-urgency, enjoying recording in unusual situations, with no rules, improvising on undefined structures or using non-musical material mixed with ethnic instrumental solos. Track from the allready legendary "live in athens 2004" bootleg. In this new fantastic track Till Lindemann (frontman of RRRammstein) is talking about drowning the whole olympics in Tzatziki. Download it here, click "Herunterladen", below the image.
Update:Before people start thinking that I am a RRRammstein fan (which I am not), let me tell you, that there is no live in athens bootleg, this song is just a funny cover version of the RRRammstein song "Sonne".
A promoter, DJ and formerly a publicist at Warp Records, Mira Calix was signed to her own Warp contract in 1996 to record abstract ambience that relies on a wide variety of sound sources, organic or otherwise.[...]The fruits of her first Peel Session appeared later that year, and second LP Skimskitta followed in early 2003.More
Womenfolk focuses predominantly on women in music. There are many talented ones out there and they need to be heard. Every once in awhile, I may break the rules and spotlight a few men people should be listening to as well.
