Zed Nelson: "There have reportedly been more nose jobs in Iran during the past year than in any other country in the world. For more than 20 years strict social rules have demanded modest dress and covered hair. Laws forbid women to publicly sing, dance, or wear make-up. But today, frustrated with their lack of freedom, Iranian women are redefining what it means to live in an Islamic fundamentalist society. Iran, and Tehran in particular, has a female population that is pursuing rhinoplasty with the same passion that they're pushing for government reform."
John Heartfield, bekannter Dadaist und mehr oder weniger Erfinder der Photomontage wäre Juni 2006 105 Jahre alt geworden. Zwar ist er ziemlich in Vergessenheit geraten, jedoch erfreuen sich seine Bilder immer noch großer Popularität. Auffällig oft findet man CD-Cover die Heartfield Bilder zeigen oder das Cover ist zumindest sehr deutlich im Stil von Heartfield entworfen (siehe Franz Ferdinand).

Some of the best photographs I've seen lately are those of Muir Vidler. The one above is from the "Israeli Death Metal" Project. Other projects inlude a photo series of Tony Alva, skateboar legend as seen in the movie Dogtown Boys, and also a nice project is the one about old Mods.

Mannheim is a small town (around 300000 people) but has a huge gay community (that's what I heard, DON'T know from first hand).
I once read, that the nummber of gay people living in town can be used as an indicator for the capability to integrate all different kind of people.
I think the theory goes like this: if the are many gay peole in town, the town seems to be "tolerant". If gay people are tolerated, all kind of people are tolerated.
I read about that theory in an newspaper article about the efforts of the german government to get indian IT specialists into Germany.
