bbc.co.uk: "Ty checks out the scene in Israel where the army runs the main radio station and the playlist is all Britney and rock.
Hip hop has been going down in the background until now: Crews made up of Jews and Arabs are grabbing the mic to express themselves on the war that dominates their lives.
On both sides of the political hating the artists stand up for channelling rage into music and say it's more constructive than the politicians' solution." Listen here
1. the most popular radio station is all pop shit and owned by the army. that's true and that's horrible. but there are alternatives. check out www.106fm.co.il or the stream Even london doesn't have such a station (not even resonance), which is somewhat like KCRW
2. Hip hop in Israel exists and there is mainstream stuff. It's not my taste, but there is a strong scene. It's not the US or UK, but it does exist. For my opinion, it's shit, but I am not the hip hop type to begin with.
The BBC is worst resource for info about the middle east. I am not saying that Fox is better, just don't take anything the media spits as the word of god.
no, I don't think an automatic translation tool exists. sorry
about his owned by the army. the israeli army has a radio station, which spawned another one dedicated to give traffic reports and music. Since the army doesn't hae to show profit they have the privilige of delivering their radio with no commercials, which makes it very popular. The music is shit, but that, I guess, doesn't count for most people. No one today really understands why the army needs a radio station, and the fact that it's owned by the army really doesn't mean anything as far as the content, but I guess it is a form of habit and plenty of powerful people in the Israeli media grew up from there, so they have an interest to keep it like this. It doesn't mean that the army preaches it word over the air waves. At times this station, because it doesn't have any budget goals to meet, delivers the more anti-military content that there is.
